POKEY
Pokey is a ball-obsessed fun-loving cartoon Boston terrier living her very best life with her Momma in the foggy city of San Francisco. Pokey creates mischief and mayhem wherever she goes but gets away with everything through her masterful use of sad-eye manipulation, which momma is incapable of resisting. Pokey is the queen of facial expressions - Momma is forever entertained by Pokey's goofy face, her judgmental expressions, her exasperated sighs, her omnipresent hopeful "throw the ball?" expression. If Pokey had a life motto, it would be "Bad girls have more fun", and momma is just along for the ride.

Her Momma , Akansha (also knowns as full-time ball-thrower, hand-feeder, edge-of-the-bed sleeper, and beck-and-call slave) works at a Private Equity Fund in San Francisco CA, and uses photography as an escape from her otherwise serious and demanding job. Even though Pokey isn't a fan of photos, she has been posing for pics since day one and is a pro at staying still for the camera. In 2008, Akansha saw a youtube video of a Boston terrier who laughed when you tickled his tummy. She didn’t even know what a Boston Terrier was before that. She had never really noticed them before that, but She became obsessed with this video and watched the funny faces, neck rolls and bulging eyes on repeat. She made everyone She knew to watch the video too. Everyone became quite annoyed with her and her obsession with this dog.She knew that this was the dog She wanted. She started buying BT cards and home goods, hoping that one day She would have her own funny-faced, neck-rolled tubby dumpling but knowing it was a far-fetched dream. At the time she lived in New York and “work-life balance” was a mythical concept you heard of. She couldn’t have a dog with her insane work schedule and constant work travel.

Many years later, in 2015, hearing that people in California had something called “evenings” and “weekends”, She decided to move cross-country in search of a better way of living. At first, free time was great. She traveled and explored California. But soon She became restless and found herself toying with the idea of finally getting a dog. One day, She accidentally came across the silliest-looking Boston terrier puppy named Pokey. She was 6 weeks old, and She was told she would be available for adoption in 2 weeks. Pokey was everything a Boston terrier should be - gooby goober, super silly, eyes way too big for her head, tiny floppy puppy ears and simply oozing with personality. Visions of evenings spent cuddling on the couch danced in her head as she said “YES! She’ll take her!” Two weeks later, She went to pick her up. She was only four pounds and fit on her hand. She very quickly learned that Pokey had only two speeds: meth addict (zoom zoom) and comatose.

While Pokey is a smaller dog, she is very active and very energetic and has a huge zest for life! Pokey LOVES playing ball - indoors or outdoors! They play a lot of ball with her automated ball launcher indoors, and ball in the park outdoors. Pokey loves hiking with Mamma and going to the beach. They are lucky to live in San Francisco and have lots of outdoor dog-friendly places to visit together. Akansha loves that San Francisco is super dog friendly. Dogs outnumber children in San Francisco and She read that there are an estimated 120,000 dogs in San Francisco! In fact, a recent study of the country's most pet-friendly cities ranked San Francisco as number one! She loves that she can generally take Pokey with her everywhere she goes! Not only do they explore San Francisco, but they also love traveling to the surrounding areas like Carmel-by-the-Sea, Napa, Yosemite, Tahoe etc. Pokey is a great traveler and does really well on their many excursions!

People often ask her how Pokey got her name or why She named her Pokey. Unfortunately, She cannot take credit for her name because Pokey was already named Pokey when she got her. A large part of the reason why she chose puppy Pokey from her littermates was that the name Pokey was just so perfect for this silly-looking puppy! And while she LOVED her name, she was planning on changing it to something that began with “A” since her name starts with A. She was also a little concerned that people would think the name Pokey was too silly and thought She would feel self-conscious telling people that my dog’s name was “Pokey”. So she was toying with names like Amy or Annabel but figured She would wait to meet Pokey before deciding on a name. And then She met her. And she was a Pokey. She could never have been anything else.A rose with another name may still smell as sweet, but a Pokey with another name wouldn’t be as gooby!
Pokey in her favorite color Lilac bow collar
Akansha’s favorite color is purple & She ADOREs Pokey in her Lilac bow collar! Since she is a fairly rambunctious girl and gets everything dirty, she is only allowed to wear it on special occasions. But whenever she wears it, everyone gushes over what a pretty and proper lady she is, and loves her in her adorable bow!Pokey is Akansha's first pet. she thought having a dog would be fairly easy - Let's just say that She had no idea what She was in for...! Now Pokey turned 6 on April 11 & she simultaneously cannot believe that she is already 6, and that she has only had her for 6 years! She cannot remember her life before her or imagine her life without her!
